The U.S. Forest Service, Pacific Southwest Region, Fire and Aviation Management Staff are recruiting for two permanent, full-time GS-0462-09 Logistics Coordinator positions located in Riverside, CA. Position Information
These positions are located at the Southern Geographic Area Coordination Center (GACC) and serve as Logistics Coordinators in carrying out priorities for the mobilization, reassignment, and demobilization of firefighting resources to incidents as deemed necessary.
Incumbents will:
Assist the Operations Coordinator with the overall execution of activities of the Operations Section of the GACC. This involves the intra- and inter-geographical area movement of aircraft, personnel and equipment for wildland fire and all-hazard emergency response activities.
Monitor daily fire situation in the Geographic Area, and keeps the Operations Coordinator apprised of current and anticipated fire complexities in order to support decision making for critical wildfire situations. Monitor the availability and recommends geographical placement of shared resources (e.g. air tankers, lead planes, aerial delivered firefighters (smokejumpers and rappelers), and aerial delivered firefighter aircraft) within the Geographic Area.
***Fire Fighter retirement coverage is PENDING for this Position*** The Position Description has been submitted to the Department of Agriculture for the approval of coverage by the firefighter retirement provisions of 5 U.S.C. 8412(c) (CSRS) and 5 U.S.C. 8412(d) (FERS) in the secondary category. Coverage will not be determined before the closing date of this announcement. If secondary coverage is approved, coverage of the incumbent will depend upon his or her past coverage.
Location Information –Riverside, California
The Southern California Geographic Area Coordination Center is located in Riverside, California, a full-service community of around 275,000 people. Riverside is part of the Inland Empire area within Riverside County and is centrally located between the Pacific Ocean, mountains, and deserts.
Riverside is located 50 miles east of Los Angeles and 460 miles south of San Francisco. Riverside's location in the sun-belt assures mild, Mediterranean weather with brisk winters and pleasantly cool summer nights. Temperatures vary during the seasons, typically ranging between 45 degrees and 95 degrees Fahrenheit. With an elevation of 847 feet, Riverside averages 315 days of sunshine per year, and the mild weather allows residents to enjoy many activities.
There are numerous recreational opportunities located close to Riverside. Within two hours, an individual can be enjoying the Oceanside, mountain, or desert environments. Within these close areas, recreation opportunities are just about limitless and include such activities as hiking, camping, fishing, sailing, biking and water and snow skiing at Big Bear during the winter months.
